MARYVILLE, Mo. - After completion of day one's events, freshman Justin Taylor tops the leader board with 3,656 points in the Herschel Neil Decathlon at Northwest Missouri State.
Taylor placed first in two of the five events held today and finished second in two events. The Derby native's wins came in the long jump and high jump events. Taylor won the long jump with a 21-5 ? jump and the high jump with a leap of 6-4 ?.
Sophomore Chris Dickman is not far behind Taylor, finishing the day in second place with 3,619 points. Dickman won the 100 and 400-meter dashes, running the 100m in 11.09 and the 400m in 49.6.
Senior Emily Green is the only Shocker woman to compete in the Ashley Nally Heptathlon. After four events, Green is in seventh place with 2,329 points.
The Valley Center native's best event of the day was the high jump competition. Green placed second in the event with a jump of 5-3 ?.
The second round of events begin Monday morning, April 2, at 9 a.m. with the men's 110-meter hurdles. The women will begin the final three events at 10 a.m., starting with the long jump.
