FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ? Day one of the Arkansas Invitational found
Wichita State placing five athletes and two relays in the top 10 to top off the day's events.
Sophomore Rachael Stevens tied for third place in the women's high jump competition, jumping a height of 5-6. Stevens, a native of McPherson, Kan., is currently the MVC leader in the high jump with her career best jump of 5-8 ? at the KSU All-Comers meet. On the men's side, freshman Jesee Deal of Concordia, Kan., jumped a season best of 6-7 to finish the event in eighth place.
Senior Brian Baker of Wichita competed in the shot put competition and tossed a 52-1 ? to place fifth in the event. In the men's weight throw, junior Darren Moser, a Hunter, Okla., native, threw 49-5 ? to finish the night in ninth place, which moves him into the No. 7 spot on the Valley's best list.
Sophomore distance runner Scott Reed, from Omaha, Neb., placed fifth for the men's team in the 5,000-meter race, running the race in 15:09.78. On the women's side, senior Sarah Becker came away with a third place finish in the 5K, running 17:27.56. The men's distance medley relay ran 10:12.91 to place ninth, a huge improvement from their last outing. The women's distance medley relay team ran 12:50.11 to finish in seventh place.
The Shockers will wrap up the Arkansas Invitational meet tomorrow. Events will begin at 11 a.m. and will conclude at approximately 5 p.m. Results will be posted at goshockers.com at the conclusion of the meet.
