LAKESIDE, Calif.-The Wichita State men's golf team is currently tied for 11th with a 285 at the Barona Collegiate Cup on the par 72, 7,088 yard Barona Creek Golf Course.
Two rounds were originally scheduled for Monday but the second round was postponed due to poor visibility and weather conditions. The second round will resume Tuesday at 7 a.m. PDT, while the final round will follow immediately after.
The Shockers were led by sophomore
Ryan Spears. Spears finished the day tied for eighth with a 68. He struggled a little on the front-nine with a 36 but shot a blistering 32 on the back-nine. Only one shot behind is freshman Zach Potter. Potter is tied for 13th with a 69 after shooting a 37 on the front-nine and putting together an impressive 32 on the back-nine.
Freshman Jeff Zimmerman is tied for 62nd after shooting a 73. Zimmerman shot a 37 on the front-nine and then improved by a stroke on the back-nine. Junior
Cameron Bishop also improved by a shot on the back-nine after shooting a 38 on the front. Bishop is tied for 86th with a 75. Freshman
Brad Boan finished the day in 99th with an 80.
BYU leads the team standings by shooting a 273 on the day. The Cougars lead Fresno State by one stroke and Denver by two strokes. Denver's James Love shot the low round of the day with a 62 as he leads the individual standings.
The Shockers look to improve on their scores as they finish round two and finish with a third round on Tuesday.
