4/24/2026 10:45:00 AM

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State added its third signee out of the transfer portal Friday morning with the addition of Dayton transfer Bryce Heard.

Heard is a 6-foot-6 guard out of Chicago, Ill. He was a consensus 4-star recruit out of high school when he played his freshman season at North Carolina State. After one season in Raleigh, Heard spent his sophomore campaign at Dayton.

"Bryce is a player we believe in - not just for what he's done previously, but for what he's going to become," said Wichita State head men's basketball coach Paul Mills. "His best basketball is in front of him. He has the versatility, athleticism and hunger to grow his game, so we are excited to be part of that journey. He's also demonstrated steady growth and a competitive edge to impact the game on both ends. Shocker Nation can look forward to seeing Heard in Black and Yellow as he begins the next chapter of his career with the Shockers."

This past season for the Flyers, Heard played in 36 games, making six starts. He averaged 6.6 points and 2.4 rebounds on 44 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent shooting from beyond the arc. He scored a career-high 16 points vs. nationally ranked BYU on Nov. 28. Heard logged nine games of 10 or more points and his 26 made three-pointers were fourth most on the team. As a true freshman for the Wolfpack, Heard scored 28 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, appearing in 24 games.

Heard reclassified to the 2024 class out of high school, playing his final high school season at Homewood Flossmoor High School where he was an All-State honoree and a First Team All-Conference member. He averaged 16.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game to lead the Vikings to a 33-4 record and the Illinois Class 4A State Championship. He recorded a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds in the state title game to earn the game's MVP.

He's the son of Bryan Heard and Pat Dunlap.
