Moore’s Career Day Pushes Wichita State’s Win Streak to Eight

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Ausha Moore tied a school record with three home runs, as Wichita State cruised to an 14-4 run-rule win in the series finale at Charlotte Sunday afternoon.

Wichita State (27-15, 15-6) pushed its win streak to eight in a row and collected its second straight conference series sweep. In the brief series history between Wichita State and Charlotte, it marks the first sweep by either team.

It also marked Wichita State's first conference road sweep since 2024 at East Carolina.

After the weekend Wichita State now sits in a three-way tie for first place with South Florida and North Texas in the American Conference standings.

Moore was a perfect 3-for-3 with three home runs, two walks, three runs and nine RBIs. She became the sixth Shocker to hit three homers in a single game, while her nine RBIs set a new school record.

Kammie Smith pushed her hit streak to 11 with a 2-for-4 day. Jodie Epperson capped the weekend with her third straight multi-hit game, going 2-for3 with two runs. Trinity Allen, Kinzey Woody, Johnna Schroeder, Aeryn Shuman and Mackenzie Rooney all logged a hit apiece.

Ryley Nihart (12-9) went 5.0 innings in the win, allowing four runs on eight hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Jade Sanders threw the final inning. She struck out two around a hit and a walk.

Wichita State jumped on Charlotte with a nine-run top of the first, highlighted by Moore's two home runs and six RBIs. The sophomore opened the scoring with a two-run shot to dead center and then capped the inning with a no-doubt grand slam. In between Moore's home run derby, Wichita State scored on Aeryn Shuman's bases loaded walk and back-to-back RBI singles from Rooney and Allen.

Charlotte got two runs back in the home half of the first on an RBI single and a sac fly, cutting the lead to 9-2.

In the top of the third, Moore's big day continued. She belted her third homer of the day on a 3-1 pitch over the wall in right-center, extending the lead to 11-2.

The Niners scratched out a single run in the fourth and fifth to avoid the run-rule.

A three-run top of the sixth put the run-rule back in play. Gabby Scott drove in two on a pinch-hit single and Moore drew a bases loaded walk to make it 14-4.
