WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State scored all three of its runs on three solo home runs, none bigger than
Trinity Allen's walk-off shot in the bottom of the seventh, lifting the Shockers to a 3-2 series-opening win vs. Florida Atlantic Friday night at Wilkins Stadium.
Wichita State (17-10, 5-2) moved its win streak to six in a row, while snapping a three-game losing streak to the defending conference champion Owls.
Kinzey Woody was a perfect 3-for-3 with one of the three solo home runs.
Gabby Scott and Allen provided the other two.
Ryley Nihart (7-6) tossed a complete game to earn her seventh win of the season in the circle. She allowed two runs on seven hits, five walks and four strikeouts.
Neither team found the run column until the bottom of the fourth on Woody's no-doubter to left-center.
After a scoreless fifth, Florida Atlantic vaulted into the lead on McKenna Mulholland's pinch-hit, two-out, two-run triple down the right field line. Scott immediately answered for the Shockers in the home half of the sixth with her leadoff bomb off the scoreboard in left.
Nihart escaped a bases loaded jam in the top of the seventh to bring the Shockers to bat. After a
Chloe Rhine single to lead off the inning,
Mackenzie Rooney grounded into a double play. With two outs, Allen stepped in and drove an 0-1 pitch down the left field line for the game winner.
