WICHITA, Kan. – After defeating both UTSA and No. 42 Rice last week, the Wichita State women's tennis team rose eight spots to No. 28 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings Tuesday.
The Shockers beat UTSA 4-1 on Thursday before knocking off No. 42 Rice 4-3 on Saturday in Houston. It was Wichita State's highest-ranked win since 2019 and its first ranked victory of the season.
The No. 28 ranking is the second-highest of the season for Wichita State, trailing only its No. 24 ranking on Feb. 24.
The Shockers are the highest-ranked team in the American Conference, ahead of Charlotte (No. 38) and Rice (No. 56).
Wichita State has wins over five teams — SMU, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State and Rice — that appear in this week's ITA rankings.
The Shockers return to action Friday, March 13, against Arkansas State in Indian Wells, Calif.
