A New Era
  • Wichita State women's tennis began its first dual season under head coach Jacob Eddins, who was named the ninth head coach in program history on Sept. 15, 2025. The Eddins era began with a 4-0 win over Texas State on Jan. 17 in Norman, Okla.
  • Eddins came to Wichita from Illinois, where he served as associate head coach for two seasons, compiling 32 dual-match wins and earning two bids to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Eddins' stint with Wichita State is his first as a head coach.
  • Eddins became the fifth Shocker head coach to earn a win in his debut all-time and improved the record of Shocker head coaches in their debuts to 5-4.
  • Wichita State had a preseason team Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 57.76, which ranks 65th nationally and is fourth-highest in the American Conference, behind Charlotte (No. 63), Florida Atlantic (No. 49), and Rice (No. 37).
  • Eddins earned both his first head coaching win at home and over a Power Four conference opponent with a 4-2 victory over SMU on Monday, Jan. 19.
Friday Recap
  • Wichita State took down both Nebraska and Abilene Christian on Friday, beating the Huskers 4-0 and the Wildcats 5-0.
  • Against the Huskers, a 6-3 win by Kristina Kudryavtseva and Theodora Chantava and another 6-3 victory by Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli gave the Shockers the doubles point.
  • In singles, Roselli and Chantava recorded straight-set singles wins to put Wichita State up 3-0.
  • Kudryavtseva's 7-6 (4), 0-6, 7-5 win at No. 4 clinched the win for the Shockers.
  • Against Abilene Christian, Wichita State took doubles swiftly with a pair of 6-1 victories at Nos. 2 and 3.
  • Roselli, Chantava, Vichitraporn Vimuktananda, and Sati Aubakirova all earned singles wins to give the Shockers a 5-0 win.
In the Rankings
  • Wang and Roselli were ranked No. 12 in doubles in the Wednesday, Feb. 4 ITA rankings, the highest ranking by any doubles pairing in program history. They moved up 12 spots from their end-of-fall rankings and 19 from their pre-fall rankings.
  • In addition, Roselli earned her first career singles ranking, ranking No. 109.
Award Winners
  • After Vimuktananda's performance last weekend, she was named the American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 3.
  • She joined Wang in the Player of the Week category, who won the award back on Jan. 21.
Doubles Champions
  • Wang and Roselli won the 2025 American Conference Doubles Championship on Oct. 26, earning a bid to the 2025 ITA Conference Masters Championship, where they finished fourth.
  • The pair faced a total of nine ranked opponents in the fall season, posting a 4-5 record.
  • For their fall efforts, Wang and Roselli earned an ITA doubles ranking of No. 24, up seven spots from their preseason ranking of No. 31.
  • The ranking was the fifth-highest achieved by a Shocker doubles pair in program history.
Remnants of the Past
  • Wichita State finished 13-10 last season, reaching a national ranking as high as No. 47, and ending the year ranked No. 60.
  • The Shockers return 95.1% of their dual match win production from last season and added an experienced transfer in Vichitraporn Vimuktananda.
  • Seven Shockers have at least two years of playing experience. Five are academic seniors or graduate students.
  • The five Wichita State seniors are the most on a roster for the Shockers since the 2019-20 season, when they had seven.
Doubles is the Key
  • In matches where Wichita State won the doubles point last season, the Shockers went 11-2, with the only losses coming against No. 47/46 Charlotte and Washington State.
  • When the Shockers lost the doubles point, they went just 2-8.
  • This season, the Shockers are 3-1 when winning the doubles point, and 1-2 when they don't.
Kansas Notes
  • Todd Chapman is in 13th season as the head coach of the Jayhawks.
  • Chapman has taken the Jayhawks to new heights as a program, reaching seven NCAA Tournaments, including reaching the Sweet 16 in 2019.
  • The Jayhawks are 3-1 on the season, with wins over Kansas City, Creighton, and Nebraska, and a loss to No. 21 Clemson.
  • The match against Wichita State will be KU's first outside of Lawrence this season.
  • Kansas has two ranked doubles pairings. Heike Janse van Vuuren and Kyoka Kubo are No. 58; van Vuuren and Meg McCarty are No. 73.
  • In singles, Kubo is ranked No. 25.
Series History vs. Kansas 
  • Kansas leads the all-time series with Wichita State, 24-12
  • The Jayhawks have won the last three meetings, outscoring the Shockers 15-3.
  • The series is much closer when the teams play in Wichita, with KU narrowly leading the series 9-7.
  • Wichita State won the last meeting in Wichita on Mar. 20, 2021, 4-3.
  • Kansas has dominated the series recently, winning eight of the last ten matchups.
  • Since the teams resumed playing annually in 2014, the Jayhawks have won eight of the 12 meetings.
