WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State swept its doubleheader on Friday, beating Nebraska, 4-0, and Abilene Christian, 5-0, at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.

The Shockers (6-3) dealt Nebraska (5-2) its second loss of the season before defeating Abilene Christian (3-3) to earn their fourth straight win.

"Today was a challenge both mentally and physically in many ways," head coach
Jacob Eddins said. "We knew it might not be pretty with today being our first outdoor matches of the year, but sometimes, you just have to find a way to win, and our team did exactly that."

In doubles against the Cornhuskers, Nebraska struck first with a 6-1 win over
Anne Knuettel and
Vichitraporn Vimuktananda at No. 3.
Kristina Kudryavtseva and
Theodora Chantava responded for the Shockers with a 6-3 victory at No. 2, leaving the doubles point to be decided at No. 1.

At the top spot, No. 12-ranked
Xin Tong Wang and
Giorgia Roselli defeated the Huskers, 6-3, to earn their third dual win of the season.

Singles remained competitive, but Wichita State claimed four of six first sets.

Chantava continued her strong start to the season, improving to 4-0 in singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead.

Roselli followed shortly after with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2, moving Wichita State to the brink of victory.

With the remaining four matches pushed to third sets, Kudryavtseva delivered the clincher, earning a 7-6, 0-6, 7-5 win to secure the 4-0 victory.

Abilene Christian 0, Wichita State 5
Wichita State dominated doubles play against Abilene Christian, earning two 6-1 wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to take the doubles point.

The Shockers carried that momentum into singles, winning all six first sets.

Vimuktananda struck first with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 to put Wichita State ahead, 2-0.

Roselli followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 1, extending the lead to 3-0.

With simultaneous match points on the court, Chantava and
Sati Aubakirova both secured wins, as Chantava posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory and Aubakirova added a 6-3, 6-4 win to clinch and conclude the match.

"We're looking forward to a big test on Sunday against a very strong Kansas team," Eddins said. "We hope to have a great crowd out on Sunday afternoon to watch this team compete."
