ABILENE, Texas — Wichita State defeated Abilene Christian, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at Teague Special Events Center.

The Shockers (6-7) earned their second road victory of the season with the win over Abilene Christian (3-5) and earned their third win in their last four matches.

In doubles, Wichita State struck quickly, with
Rodrigo Cruz and
Ilias Worthington winning 6-1 at No. 2.
Zaid Al Mashni and
Pablo Roche Alcaya clinched the point for the Shockers soon after with a 6-3 win at No. 1, earning their seventh win of the dual season paired together.

In singles, the match tightened, as the teams split the first sets at three each.

Al Mashni was the first to strike, winning 6-1, 6-2 No. 3 to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead. It was his third singles victory in his last four matches.

Alcaya joined his doubles partner in the winner's circle, remaining hot with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4. The freshman has won six of his last seven decisions in singles.Â

Cruz clinched the match win for Wichita State with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 6.

Playing the remaining matches out, Abilene Christian won the remaining three contests over Worthington,
Alejandro Jacome and
Luke Bracks to reach the end margin of 4-3.
