Shockers Blank UT Arlington, Win Third Straight Match

ARLINGTON, Texas — Wichita State won its second match in as many days with a 4-0 victory over UT Arlington on Friday at UTA Tennis Center.

The Shockers (7-7) defeated shorthanded UT Arlington (0-6) to earn their third straight victory and fourth in their last five matches.

In doubles, Wichita State began with an advantage as UT Arlington forfeited No. 3 doubles because of a lack of players, meaning the Shockers needed just one court to secure the point.

The Mavericks did not make it easy on the Shockers, taking No. 1 doubles 6-4 over Zaid Al Mashni and Pablo Roche Alcaya, but Ilias Worthington and Rodrigo Cruz won 6-3 at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point for Wichita State.

The Shockers got their second point of the contest before singles began, as UT Arlington was forced to forfeit No. 6 singles because of its player shortage, putting Wichita State ahead 2-0.

On the remaining five courts, the Shockers claimed three of five first sets.

Luke Bracks secured the first nonforfeit singles victory for the Shockers with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5.

Alcaya rebounded from his doubles defeat with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 4 to clinch the match for the Shockers.
