Giles' Late Three-Pointer Sinks Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Wichita State closed the game on a 7-0 run to sink Memphis, 88-82, Thursday night in the FedExForum, extending its winning streak to four in a row.

Wichita State (19-10, 11-5) snapped a seven-game losing streak in Memphis and recorded its first-ever regular season sweep of the Tigers with the win.

The Shockers dominated the paint area, outrebounding the Tigers, 44-27, including 18 offensive rebounds, and scoring 44 points in the paint.

Kenyon Giles scored 19 of his team-high 22 points in the second half, including a dagger three-pointer to put Wichita State up four with 30 seconds left. It marked his fifth straight game with 20 points and 15th of the season.

In total, five Shockers finished in double figures. Karon Boyd added 14 points, seven rebounds and a season-high five assists. Will Berg recorded his team-leading seventh double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Dillon Battie added 12 and Emmanuel Okorafor chipped in 11 and six rebounds - five coming on the offensive end.

After Memphis scored the game's first basket, Wichita State answered immediately. On the Shockers' second possession, Emmanuel Okorafor tipped in an offensive rebound to even the score at 2-2 with 18:52 remaining in the opening half.

Memphis briefly built a five-point lead (12-7) at the 15:55 mark, its largest of the night. Wichita State responded with a steady interior attack and a key three-pointer from Giles. Giles' pull-up triple at 13:46 gave the Shockers a 16-14 edge, igniting a stretch in which Wichita State began to seize control.

Berg provided a major lift off the bench midway through the half. After grabbing an offensive rebound, Berg finished with a dunk at 13:19 to put Wichita State ahead 18-16.

The Shockers consistently converted second-chance opportunities, piling up 17 second-chance points in the first half alone.

Wichita State shot just 27.5 percent in the opening half and took a 40-35 lead into the locker room thanks to converting 16-of-21 at the free throw line.

The Shockers led for more than 12 minutes in the half and held Memphis to just 1-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Memphis opened the second half looking to swing momentum, but Wichita State answered each challenge. Michael Gray Jr. attacked the rim early in the period, converting a driving layup at the 18:24 mark to stretch the margin to seven.

After Wichita State grabbed its largest lead of the night at 13, the Tigers put together their best run of the night midway through the second half, using a 9-0 burst to briefly flip the lead. Memphis' largest advantage of the half was just one point (2:53 remaining), underscoring how tightly contested the stretch became.

Wichita State never wavered. The Shockers responded with composure, stringing together stops and capitalizing at the free throw line. A late 7-0 run in the final seconds helped seal the outcome and push the Shockers' lead to double digits before Memphis narrowed the final margin.

In the final 20 minutes, Wichita State shot 66.7 percent from the floor (18-of-27), maintaining offensive efficiency even as Memphis shot 56.7 percent in the half.
