WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State defended home with a 4-0 victory over Tulane on Sunday at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
The win for the Shockers (9-3) marked their third consecutive win over the Green Wave (3-5) and improved them to 2-0 against Tulane in Wichita. The win also extended Wichita State's winning streak to seven, its longest since 2017.
"Today was another great day for the team," head coach
Jacob Eddins said. "It was good to face a conference opponent, and I was proud of how the girls carried their doubles momentum into singles."
In doubles,
Kristina Kudryavtseva and
Theodora Chantava opened play with a 6-1 win at No. 2. At No. 1, the No. 12-ranked duo of
Xin Tong Wang and
Giorgia Roselli claimed a 6-3 victory to secure the doubles point for the Shockers.
In singles, the Shockers kept momentum on their side by taking five first sets from Tulane.
Kudryavtseva won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, securing the first singles victory for the Shockers.
Following that, No. 109-ranked Roselli earned her seventh straight win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
At No. 5, Vimuktananda took the first set 6-0 and closed out the second set 6-3 to secure the victory for Wichita State.
"Winning five first sets helped us keep control of the match," Eddins said. "Finishing off three singles matches in straight sets the way we did was really impressive."
