Shockers Run-Ruled by No. 9/11 Arkansas, Rout Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Wichita State fell to No. 9/11 Arkansas, 10-2, before bouncing back with a 10-3 win over Texas State on Friday in day one of the State's Up Invitational at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
 
The Shockers (3-4) were run-ruled in five innings by Arkansas (5-1) before hitting four home runs in their victory over Texas State (4-3).
 
No. 9/11 Arkansas 10, Wichita State 2 (5 innings)

Arkansas struck early, turning two hits into a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Razorbacks added two more runs on three hits in the second to extend the advantage to 3-0.
 
In the third, Arkansas hit back-to-back home runs — a three-run shot followed by a solo homer — off Wichita State starter Jade Sanders to push the lead to 7-0, chasing Sanders from the game.
 
The Shockers got on the board in the bottom of the third when Chloe Rhine launched a solo home run to right field. It marked Wichita State's first homer of the season and Rhine's first as a Shocker.
 
Arkansas continued its offensive surge with three more runs to make it 10-1.
 
Mackenzie Rooney homered just over the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to 10-2, but the eight-run margin held to end the game via the run rule.
 
Sanders (0-2) pitched 2.2 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits.
 
Rooney and Rhine accounted for Wichita State's only hits with solo home runs.

Both teams threatened in the first inning, loading the bases with fewer than two outs, but neither side was able to score.
 
Wichita State broke through in the second. Jodie Epperson reached on an error and Johnna Schroeder walked before Kammie Smith and Ausha Moore each delivered RBI singles to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead. Gabby Scott followed with a three-run home run to center field, extending the lead to 5-0.
 
After a scoreless third, Texas State trimmed the margin with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-2.
 
The Shockers responded with back-to-back-to-back home runs in the top of the fifth. Brookelyn Livanec led off with a two-run, opposite-field homer to left. Epperson followed with a solo shot to left, and Rhine capped the trio with a home run to right field to make it 9-2.
 
Texas State added a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning, but Ryley Nihart ended the threat with a strikeout.
 
Scott added a two-out RBI single up the middle later in the game to give Wichita State a 10-3 lead.
 
Nihart (1-1) earned the win, tossing a complete game while allowing three runs on five hits and striking out six.
 
Scott and Smith each collected three hits. Scott finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. The 10 runs were Wichita State's most since scoring 15 against Kansas City on April 22, 2025.
