A New Era
  • Wichita State women's tennis began its first dual season under head coach Jacob Eddins, who was named the ninth head coach in program history on Sept. 15, 2025. The Eddins era began with a 4-0 win over Texas State on Jan. 17 in Norman, Okla.
  • Eddins came to Wichita from Illinois, where he served as associate head coach for two seasons, compiling 32 dual-match wins and earning two bids to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Eddins' stint with Wichita State is his first as a head coach.
  • Eddins became the fifth Shocker head coach to earn a win in his debut all-time and improved the record of Shocker head coaches in their debuts to 5-4.
  • Wichita State had a preseason team Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 57.76, which ranks 65th nationally and is fourth-highest in the American Conference, behind Charlotte (No. 63), Florida Atlantic (No. 49), and Rice (No. 37).
  • Eddins earned both his first head coaching win at home and over a Power Four conference opponent with a 4-2 victory over SMU on Monday, Jan. 19.
Sunday Recap
  • Wichita State defeated in-state rival Kansas on Sunday afternoon, 4-3, at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
  • The win was the Shockers' first over Kansas since 2021.
  • Wichita State began the match by winning their seventh doubles point of the year with a victory by Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli at No. 1 and a 6-4 win by Anne Knuettel and Vichitraporn Vimuktananda at No. 3
  • In singles, Kansas took four of six first sets. Roselli was able to close out her match in straight sets, while Theodora Chantava and Vimuktananda rallied to win their matches in three sets to give the Shockers a 4-3 win.
In the Rankings
  • Wang and Roselli were ranked No. 12 in doubles in the Wednesday, Feb. 4 ITA rankings, the highest ranking by any doubles pairing in program history. They moved up 12 spots from their end-of-fall rankings and 19 from their pre-fall rankings.
  • Wichita State was ranked No. 18 team by the ITA on Wednesday, Feb. 11, the fourth-highest ranking in program history.
  • In addition, Roselli earned her first career singles ranking, ranking No. 109.
Award Winners
  • After Roselli went 6-0 across doubles and singles last week, she was named the American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 10.
  • Wichita State has won all three player of the week awards in the spring 2026 season. Roselli joined teammates Wang and Vimuktananda in the honoree category.
Doubles Champions
  • Wang and Roselli won the 2025 American Conference Doubles Championship on Oct. 26, earning a bid to the 2025 ITA Conference Masters Championship, where they finished fourth.
  • The pair faced a total of nine ranked opponents in the fall season, posting a 4-5 record.
  • For their fall efforts, Wang and Roselli earned an ITA doubles ranking of No. 24, up seven spots from their preseason ranking of No. 31.
  • The ranking was the fifth-highest achieved by a Shocker doubles pair in program history.
Remnants of the Past
  • Wichita State finished 13-10 last season, reaching a national ranking as high as No. 47, and ending the year ranked No. 60.
  • The Shockers return 95.1% of their dual match win production from last season and added an experienced transfer in Vichitraporn Vimuktananda.
  • Seven Shockers have at least two years of playing experience. Five are academic seniors or graduate students.
  • The five Wichita State seniors are the most on a roster for the Shockers since the 2019-20 season, when they had seven.
Doubles is the Key
  • In matches where Wichita State won the doubles point last season, the Shockers went 11-2, with the only losses coming against No. 47/46 Charlotte and Washington State.
  • When the Shockers lost the doubles point, they went just 2-8.
  • This season, the Shockers are 6-1 when winning the doubles point, and 1-2 when they don't.
Kansas State Notes
  • Jordan Smith is in his 18th season as head coach of the Wildcats.
  • Kansas State is 1-2 on the season with a win over Tulsa and losses to Arkansas and No. 21 Clemson.
  • The Wildcats have the No. 33-ranked doubles pairing in the nation in sisters Martaa and Maralgoo Chogsomjav.
  • The match for the Wildcats will be their home opener.
  • Kansas State went 10-12 last season and 6-7 in Big XII play.
  • The Wildcats were 6-6 at home last season and 3-3 in both indoor and outdoor home matches.
Series History vs. Kansas State
  • Kansas State narrowly leads the all-time series with Wichita State 31-29.
  • The Shockers have won two of the last three meetings, but Kansas State has won five of the last seven.
  • Wichita State is 11-15 when playing Kansas State in Manhattan.
  • The last two Shocker wins over the Wildcats have come in Manhattan.
