A New Era
  • Wichita State women's tennis began its first dual season under head coach Jacob Eddins, who was named the ninth head coach in program history on Sept. 15, 2025. The Eddins era began with a 4-0 win over Texas State on Jan. 17 in Norman, Okla.
  • Eddins came to Wichita from Illinois, where he served as associate head coach for two seasons, compiling 32 dual-match wins and earning two bids to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Eddins' stint with Wichita State is his first as a head coach.
  • Eddins became the fifth Shocker head coach to earn a win in his debut all-time and improved the record of Shocker head coaching debuts to 5-4.
  • Wichita State has a preseason team Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 57.76, which ranks 65th nationally and is fourth-highest in the American Conference, behind Charlotte (No. 63), Florida Atlantic (No. 49), and Rice (No. 37).
  • Eddins earned both his first head coaching win at home and over a Power Four conference opponent with a 4-2 victory over SMU on Monday, Jan. 19.
ITA Kickoff Weekend Recap
  • Wichita State dropped both of its matches at the Lubbock Regional of ITA Kickoff Weekend last weekend.
  • The Shockers fell to eventual region champion No. 10 Oklahoma State, 4-0, in the semifinal on Friday and lost 4-3 to Long Beach State in the consolation match the following day.
  • Wichita State was without lineup regular Theodora Chantava in both matches and without Giorgia Roselli against Long Beach State, both due to illness.
Fall Notes
  • Wichita State earned 24 singles wins and 21 doubles wins during the 2025 fall season.
  • Roselli's 5-3 singles record was the best among all Shockers, and she paired with Xin Tong Wang to earn 10 doubles victories, the most of any Shocker tandem.
  • Kristina Kudryavtseva and Theodora Chantava posted the best winning percentage among WSU doubles teams in the fall at .833.
Doubles Champions
  • Wang and Roselli won the 2025 American Conference Doubles Championship on Oct. 26, earning a bid to the 2025 ITA Conference Masters Championship, where they finished fourth.
  • The pair faced a total of nine ranked opponents in the fall season, posting a 4-5 record.
  • For their fall efforts, Wang and Roselli earned an ITA doubles ranking of No. 24, up seven spots from their preseason ranking of No. 31.
  • The ranking is the fifth-highest achieved by a Shocker doubles pair in program history.
Last Year's Leaders
  • Chantava's 28 total dual match wins across singles and doubles led the Shockers during the 2025 spring season.
  • Chantava led Wichita State in wins in both singles and doubles, recording 14 of each.
  • Four Shockers, Chantava, Roselli, Wang, and Anne Knuettel, earned double-digit singles win totals last season.
  • Knuettel's 12-3 singles record (.800 winning percentage) was the best on the team.
Remnants of the Past
  • Wichita State finished 13-10 last season, reaching a national ranking as high as No. 47, and ending the year ranked No. 60.
  • The Shockers return 95.1% of their dual match win production from last season and added an experienced transfer in Vichitraporn Vimuktananda.
  • Seven Shockers have at least two years of playing experience. Five are academic seniors or graduate students.
  • The five Wichita State seniors are the most on a roster for the Shockers since the 2019-20 season, when they had seven.
Doubles is the Key
  • In matches where Wichita State won the doubles point last season, the Shockers went 11-2, with the only losses coming against No. 47/46 Charlotte and Washington State.
  • When the Shockers lost the doubles point, they went just 2-8.
Iowa State Notes
  • Iowa State is in its third season under former Kansas associate head coach Jason Maestas.
  • The Cyclones have improved under Maestas, going from a 4-17 season in his first year to going 11-11 last season.
  • Iowa State earned ranked wins over Kansas State, Colorado, and Arizona last season.
  • The Cyclones are prevalent in the ITA individual rankings, as they have two players ranked in singles: No. 45 Maria de la Paz Alberto and No. 124 Stanislava Shulzhenko. In doubles, Alberto and Shulzhenko are ranked No. 34.
  • Iowa State was ranked as high as No. 46 last season and ended the year ranked No. 65.
  • The Cyclones opened the 2026 season with a 5-2 loss to Minnesota on Jan. 23, winning the doubles point but losing at the No. 1 through No. 5 singles positions.
Series History vs. Iowa State
  • Iowa State leads the all-time series with Wichita State 5-3.
  • The teams have only met once since 1997, after playing seven times between 1980 and 1996.
  • Iowa State won the most recent meeting, 7-0, on Feb. 5, 2021 in Wichita. The Shockers won just one set across singles and doubles.
  • Wichita State won the only meeting to date between the teams in Ames on Mar. 5, 1994, 6-3.
