Cater Named American Conference Player of the Week

1/26/2026 3:43:00 PM

Wichita State's Abby Cater was named one of two American Conference Players of the Week following her monster performance in the Shockers' win over Memphis.

The graduate student from PG County, Md. put up a Wichita State single-game scoring record 42 points on the way to a 66-59 victory over the Tigers in Charles Koch Arena. The record was 22 years old, set by Kareema Williams at 41 in 1992 against Illinois State.

Cater shot 15-for-29 from the field, hitting a career-high four threes and shooting a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. This marks Cater's eighth game in double figures this season and third with 20 or more points. She also tied for a team-high seven rebounds and recorded two steals and two blocks, playing almost 37 minutes.

Temple's Tristen Taylor was also named conference player of the week, averaging 24 points and 5.5 assists in the Owls' wins over Charlotte and South Florida.

The Shockers picked up their first American Conference win of the season and now hit the road for a rematch with East Carolina on Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT in Greenville, N.C.
