A New Era
  • Wichita State women's tennis began its first dual season under head coach Jacob Eddins, who was named the ninth head coach in program history on Sept. 15, 2025, with a season-opening match on Jan. 17 in Norman, Okla.
  • Eddins came to Wichita from Illinois, where he served as associate head coach for two seasons, accruing 32 dual-match wins and earning two bids to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Eddins' stint with Wichita State is his first as a head coach.
  • Eddins became the fifth Shocker head coach to earn a win in his debut all-time and improved the record of Shocker head coaching debuts to 5-4.
  • Wichita State has a preseason team Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 57.76, which ranks 65th nationally and is fourth-highest in the American Conference, behind Charlotte (No. 63), Florida Atlantic (No. 49), and Rice (No. 37).
  • Eddins earned both his first head coaching win at home and over a Power Four conference opponent with a 4-2 victory over SMU on Monday, Jan. 19.
Monday Recap
  • Wichita State overcame the loss of a momentum-shifting doubles point to defeat the SMU Mustangs 4-2 on Jan. 19 at Genesis Rock Road.
  • It was the first victory for the Shockers over SMU since 2019, snapping a five-match losing streak to the Mustangs.
  • SMU overcame a 5-1 deficit at No. 1 doubles to win the court 7-6 (7) and take the doubles point.
  • Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli each defeated ranked opponents in singles at the top two courts, while Kristina Kudryavtseva and Vichitraporn Vimuktananda earned wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to give the Shockers the victory.
  • Wang's 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 46 Sophie Llewellyn was the second top 50 win of her career and the ninth highest-ranked victory in program history.
  • Theodora Chantava reached the 100-career-wins mark with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles with Kudryavtseva.
Fall Notes
  • Wichita State earned 24 singles wins and 21 doubles wins during the 2025 fall season.
  • Giorgia Roselli's 5-3 singles record was the best among all Shockers, and she paired with Xin Tong Wang to earn 10 doubles victories, the most of any Shocker tandem.
  • Kristina Kudryavtseva and Theodora Chantava posted the best winning percentage among WSU doubles teams in the fall at .833.
Doubles Champions
  • Wang and Roselli won the 2025 American Conference Doubles Championship on Oct. 26, earning a bid to the 2025 ITA Conference Masters Championship, where they finished fourth.
  • The pair faced a total of nine ranked opponents in the fall season, posting a 4-5 record.
  • For their fall efforts, Wang and Roselli earned an ITA doubles ranking of No. 24, up seven spots from their preseason ranking of No. 31.
  • The ranking is the fifth-highest achieved by a Shocker doubles pair in program history.
Last Year's Leaders
  • Chantava's 28 total dual match wins across singles and doubles led the Shockers during the 2025 spring season.
  • Chantava led Wichita State in wins in both singles and doubles, recording 14 of each.
  • Four Shockers, Chantava, Roselli, Wang, and Anne Knuettel, earned double-digit singles win totals last season.
  • Knuettel's 12-3 singles record (.800 winning percentage) was the best on the team.
Remnants of the Past
  • Wichita State finished 13-10 last season, reaching a national ranking as high as No. 47, and ending the year ranked No. 60.
  • The Shockers return 95.1% of their dual match win production from last season and added an experienced transfer in Vichitraporn Vimuktananda.
  • Seven Shockers have at least two years of playing experience. Five are academic seniors or graduate students.
  • The five Wichita State seniors are the most on a roster for the Shockers since the 2019-20 season, when they had seven.
Doubles is the Key
  • In matches where Wichita State won the doubles point last season, the Shockers won 11 of 13 matches, with the only losses coming against No. 47/46 Charlotte and Washington State.
  • When they lost the doubles point, Wichita State went just 2-8.
  • The Shockers are 1-0 this season when they win the doubles point and 1-1 when they don't.
ITA Kickoff Weekend Notes
  • Wichita State is appearing in ITA Kickoff Weekend for the first time since 2019.
  • The Shockers are 6-6 all-time playing at ITA Kickoff Weekend, going 1-1 in all six trips they have made in program history. 
  • Wichita State is 2-4 competing in the semifinal round.
  • The Shockers have never won an ITA Kickoff Weekend Regional.
  • Wichita State's last semifinal win came as the No. 2 seed in the 2018 Lubbock Regional, where they defeated Stephen F. Austin, 4-2, before losing to No. 8 Texas Tech in the final, 4-0.
Oklahoma State Notes
  • The match against Wichita State will be Oklahoma State's first of the season.
  • Sergey Ayvedev is in his first season as interim head coach of the Cowgirls.
  • Last season, the Cowgirls went 22-8, including hosting and winning the Stillwater Regional at last year's ITA Kickoff Weekend.
  • Oklahoma State reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship last season, before falling to Michigan, 4-0.
  • The Cowgirls have two players currently ranked in singles, with Rose Marie Nijkamp ranked No. 13 and Lucia Peyre ranked No. 38.
Series History vs. Oklahoma State
  • Oklahoma State leads the series with Wichita State 29-4.
  • The Cowgirls have won the last nine meetings with the Shockers.
  • Wichita State's last win in the series came on Feb. 13, 2011, in Wichita, 5-2.
  • In the last meeting on Feb. 24, 2023, Oklahoma State defeated the Shockers 4-0 in Stillwater.
  • The teams have not met outside of Stillwater since 2019.
  • The lone neutral site meeting between the teams came almost 40 years ago on February. 6, 1986, in Fayetteville, Ark., where Oklahoma State won 8-1.
 
Next Up
Win or lose on Friday, the Shockers will play either No. 1 seed Texas Tech or No. 4 seed Long Beach State
on Saturday in Lubbock.
