WICHITA – Wichita State's Lucy Ndungu claimed the Shockers' first American Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week award of the season, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
 
 The redshirt-senior raced to a runner-up finish at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational in her first cross country race in two years. Ndungu ran 17:42.4 in the 5K to lead the Shocker women to a second-place team finish.
 
This Athlete of the Week award marks her third career conference weekly honor and first of the season.
 
The Shockers line up again Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. with a small group before heading to the Pre-National Invitational in Columbia, Mo. on Saturday, Oct. 18.
