WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State's
Alejandro Jacome earned his first career professional tour singles victory with a win in the main draw of the Wichita Tennis Open on Wednesday evening.
Â
Jacome survived a back-and-forth battle with Kentucky's Eli Stephenson to earn the victory, winning 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4).Â
Â
The soon-to-be senior from Ecuador is the first Shocker to earn a victory at the Wichita Tennis Open since Nicolas Acevedo earned a win in 2021. Jacome is only the third Shocker to earn a main draw singles win at the Wichita Tennis Open since its inception in 2015.
Â
Jacome advances to the second round of singles, where he will face fellow Ecuadorian and No. 2 overall seed Andres Andrade on Thursday at Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
