Shockers Qualify 14 to NCAA First Round, Masters Punches Heptathlon Ticket to Hayward

WICHITA – Wichita State track and field is sending 14 athletes to the NCAA West Preliminaries Wednesday through Saturday in College Station, Texas.
 
The 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships will take place June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field. This year for the west region, the road to Eugene goes through College Station, Texas, where the top 48 individual athletes and the top 24 relays in the region will compete at the NCAA West Preliminaries (NCAA First Round) May 28-31 for a spot at the NCAA Championships. The top 12 in each event advance to the championship. Combined event athletes (heptathlon and decathlon) do not attend the First Rounds, but instead, the top 24 athletes overall advance directly to the NCAA Championship in Eugene.
 
Four Shocker women and 10 Shocker men made the cut for the West First Round of the NCAA Championships, and Destiny Masters was selected to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon, ranking 15th overall to punch her ticket to Hayward Field.
 

Masters also earned two entries to the NCAA West Prelims, where she will compete in the high jump and javelin for chance to qualify to the NCAA Championships. She is ranked 15th in the west region in the high jump and 41st in the javelin. Jenna Kuepker will join her in the javelin competition, ranking 30th in the competition.
 
Farrah Miller was selected to race in the 800 meters after running a personal-best time of 2:04.37 to win the American Athletic Conference title. Miller enters as the No. 14 seed in the region. Aurora Wessel claimed a spot in the 100-meter hurdles, ranking 41st in the competition.
 
On the men's side, Jason Parrish is the top-ranked Shocker in the region, entering the meet as the No. 5 seed in the 400-meter hurdles after running 49.17 to win the AAC title and set a new meet record, facility record and school record. He will also run on the Shockers' 4x100-meter relay with Joakim Genereux, Josh Parrish and Jaleel Montgomery and on the 4x400-meter relay with Genereux, Josh Parrish and Yared Kidane. The 4x100 sits in 20th, and the 4x400 ranks 20th entering the competition.
 
In addition to the relays, Josh Parrish will race in the 110-meter hurdles with the 20th-best entry and compete in the long jump with the 21st-best mark. Chairo Ogbebor will join Parrish in the long jump competition with the 24th-best entry mark.
 
Kidane and Montgomery also earned individual spots at the NCAA West Preliminaries, Kidane in the 800 meters, where he is the No. 12 seed with a time of 1:46.73, and Montgomery in the 100 meters, where he holds the 30th-best entry time.
 
Three more Shocker throwers qualified to the NCAA First Round as Ridge Estes ranks 37th in the discus, Blake McCormick ranks 37th in the javelin, and Jordan Rider claimed the 46th spot in the javelin.
 
The men will compete Wednesday, May 28 and Friday, May 30, and the women compete Thursday, May 29 and Saturday, May 31. All four days will be live streamed through ESPN+.
