WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State women's tennis head coach
Colin Foster signed his first portal pick of the offseason in Central Arkansas transfer Vichitraporn Vimuktananda on Friday afternoon.
Â
Foster was eager to add the Sugar Bear transfer, who is familiar with the Shockers.
Â
"Vichitraporn is someone we've competed against within the Central Region the last few years, and she possesses great skills all over the court," Foster said. "In singles, she has played the No. 1 position at a high level the last two years and is a great competitor in doubles as well.".
Â
Vimuktananda, who goes by the nickname "Palmy", posted overall records of 22-15 in singles matches and 27-10 in doubles this season. In dual matches this spring, she was 13-6 in singles and 13-3 in doubles, competing primarily at court one in both singles and doubles throughout the year. Her 26 total wins in dual matches were the most among all Sugar Bears and were near the top of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Â
In the fall, Vimuktananda paired with Konomi Miyakawa to defeat Wichita State's top doubles pairing of
Xin Tong Wang and
Giorgia Roselli on November 2, 6-3.
Â
Vimuktananda is a native of Phitsanulok, Thailand, and will be the first Thai native to compete for the Shockers since Tanaporn Thongsing, who graduated in 2017, and the fourth Thai to join the Shockers in the Foster era.
Â
"Palmy has competed against and beaten some of the best teams in the region in her time at Central Arkansas," Foster said. "She's excited to join our team next year, and I know will make a positive impact on our team culture."
Â
The Shocker roster for next season now stands at eight scholarship players, listed below.
