CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wichita State's
Destiny Masters,
Rikard Trogen Hedin and
Chairo Ogbebor all finished atop the American Athletic Conference podium on day two of the AAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.

Masters, a senior from El Dorado, Kan. won her second AAC heptathlon title after claiming victory in 2023, making her a four-time AAC event champion. She scored 10 points for the Shocker women and earned her 10
th all-conference award, breaking the facility record with 5,503 points. She went on to place eighth in the open shot put to score another point for Wichita State and will return for the high jump on Saturday, her last of 11 events.

Also in the heptathlon,
Brianna Utecht, a redshirt-sophomore from Marshfield, Mo. claimed the silver medal with a personal-best 5,295 points. She is now a two-time all-conference performer after running on the third-place 4x100-meter relay in 2022.

Freshman Trogen Hedin gave Wichita State a sweep of the multi-event titles, winning his first AAC title in the decathlon with 7,189 points, and senior
Hudson Bailey was the decathlon runner up with a personal-best 7,084 points. Trogen Hedin's decathlon gold is Wichita State's fourth since joining the conference in 2017-18.
Luke Czarnecki and
Holden Atwood placed fifth and sixth, respectively, giving the Shocker men a total of 25 points in the event.

Another freshman landed atop the AAC podium on day two as
Chairo Ogbebor claimed the long jump gold, jumping a personal-best 7.66m/25'1.75" on his first attempt. Ogbebor's win is the Shockers' second-ever AAC long jump win and first since Rayvon Allen in 2019. Sophomore
Josh Parrish also earned a spot on the long jump podium, his second-straight outdoor championship podium and third including indoor. His mark of 7.45m/24'5.5 claimed the bronze medal for him. Freshman
Travon Williams placed fourth in the event with a jump of 7.29m/23'11", giving the Shocker men a total of 21 points in the event.

In the women's pole vault, junior
Arantxa Cortez won the silver medal with a clearance of 4.02m/13'2.25" to earn her first all-conference award, and freshman
Shellamae Farmer cleared 3.82m/12'6.25" to take seventh. The Shocker women collected 10 points in the event.

Over in the men's shot put,
Athan Huelskamp threw a season-best 17.03m/55'10.5" on his first attempt, and the mark held for a fourth-place finish for the senior, giving the Shocker men five more points.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Jenna Muma and
Jonah Allison each finished sixth, running 10:49.80 and 9:10.33, respectively, to score three points apiece in the final event of day two.

The Shockers advanced six more athletes to Saturday's finals with
Josh Parrish,
Tyler Carroll and
Jaleel Montgomery all moving on in the 110-meter hurdles,
Farrah Miller and
Yared Kidane making the 800-meter finals, and Montgomery advancing in the 100 meters.

Parrish set a new facility record of 13.57 to get the big Q in the hurdles, and Miller ran the fastest prelim time in the 800 meters, clocking 2:08.15 for the big Q.

The Wichita State men lead the team standings after two days but still have a slight deficit to overcome in the projections in order to knock off South Florida for the championship, and the Shocker women sit in second after two days as they look to outperform their form chart with the goal of a top-three team finish.

Saturday's events begin at 1:30 p.m. CT., and team champions will be crowned at 7:05 p.m. CT.
