FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Wichita State's
Arantxa Cortez cleared a personal-best 4.16m/13'7.75" to move up to No. 2 in the American Athletic Conference Friday at the John McDonnell Invitational.

The junior from Lima, Peru placed fifth in the pole vault, clearing back-to-back outdoor personal bests, making 4.01m/13'1.74" on first attempt and 4.16m/13'7.75" on second attempt. Aliyah Fertig claimed the win with a clearance of 4.36m/14'3.5". In the men's pole vault,
Rikard Trogen Hedin cleared a personal-best 4.65m/15'3" to place fifth.

On the track,
Faith Turner,
Kate Campos,
Sydney Brown and
Sadie Millard tied for the 10
th-fastest 4x100-meter relay time in school history, running 45.69 to finish fifth.

Jonah Allison won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in his debut in the event, running 9:18.98 with a strong finish to overtake the lead in the last 100 meters. Freshman
Faith Ekart finished second in the women's steeplechase with a personal-best time of 11:00.78.

Campos ran a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking 1:00.42 to finish third and was the Shockers' top finisher in the 100-meter hurdles, taking eighth with a time of 13.87.

In the 800 meters,
Farrah Miller ran a season-best 2:07.70 to finish third and move up to No. 2 in the conference standings.

Two multi-event athletes took second in throwing events with
Destiny Masters throwing a personal-best 13.86m/45'5.75" in the shot put and Trogen Hedin throwing 49.07m/161'0" in the discus.

Grace Lange took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.98m/39'3.75, and
Chairo Ogbebor placed third in the long jump with a jump of 7.46m/24'5.75".
