LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Four Wichita State bowlers were named NTCA All-Americans on Thursday and head coach
Holly Harris was named Bill Straub Coach of the Year.
The Shockers have now had 102 All-Americans in program history, with Duque Jiménez the 39th First Team selection. Harris is the first national Coach of the Year for Wichita State since current assistant coach
Mark Lewis was USBC Coach of the Year in 2017.
Sophomore Sara Duque Jiménez was a First Team honoree, while sophomore
Ashtyn Woods earned a Second Team selection. Senior
Mary Orf was tabbed to the third team and juniorÂ
Paige Wagner was named Honorable Mention. All four were also selected to the Conference USA All-Conference teams last week.
Harris has led Wichita State to an 87-36 overall record, Conference USA championship and Lansing Regional championship in the Shockers first season as an NCAA program. She was named Conference USA Coach of the Year last week prior to guiding the Shockers to the Final Four with an undefeated run through the Lansing Regional. Of Wichita State's 87 total wins, 54 have come against ranked opponents, highlighted by a seven straight victories in the Contender's Bracket of the CUSA Tournament to bring home the title.
Duque Jiménez, Woods, Orf and Wagner all rank in the top 25 nationally of the PCPI (Player Composite Performance Index). Duque Jiménez leads the Shockers with a 211.2 average, ranking third in the latest edition of the PCPI. The sophomore from Medellin, Colombia is in the top 15 of 24 different national statistical categories and is one of the best spare shooters in the country, leading the nation with an 80.5% spare conversion percentage and a 96.7% single pin spare percentage. Woods averaged 207.5 and ranked 12th in the PCPI, doing most of her damage out of the leadoff spot where her 49.0% strike percentage ranked ninth nationally. Orf logged a 206.3 average and finished 19th in the PCPI, highlighted by a 299 at the Flyer Classic in Wichita State's win over North Carolina A&T on February 8. Wagner has been one of the most consistent pieces in the Wichita State lineup, ranking 22nd in the PCPI and excelling in traditional formats, where she is top five in both frame average (21.316) and fill percentage (90.7%).
The Shockers open the Final Four on Friday at 11:00 am CT against defending NCAA champion Jacksonville State at Suncoast Lanes in Las Vegas, Nevada.
