BOCA RATON, Fla. – Wichita State was blanked in the series finale of its conference-opening series by the No. 24 Florida Atlantic Owls, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon at FAU Softball Stadium.
 
The Sunday loss marked the first time the Shockers (10-12) have been swept in a series by a conference opponent since 2015.
 
In game three of the series, the Owls once again were the ones to open the scoring, hitting a two-run homer to right field in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. The first home run of the series for either team.
 
In the fourth, the Camryn Compton nearly tied the game via a two-run home run to left, but the ball was caught just in front of the wall to end the Shocker threat.
 
Looking for insurance in the sixth, the Owls came up with a big hit again, lifting a three-run home run to left to blow the game open, taking a 5-0 lead.
 
The 5-0 score held as the Shockers were unable to score in the seventh.
 
Starter Ava Sliger suffered the loss in her 2.0 innings of work, her first time being saddled with a loss this season.
 
Jodie Epperson and Lauren Lucas were the only two Shockers to record hits in the game.
