3/16/2025 7:44:00 PM

SMYRNA, Tenn. -- Wichita State wrapped up the 2024-25 regular season with another strong showing at the Music City Classic, finishing 7th out of 31 teams over the weekend at the Smyrna Bowling Center. The Shockers went 9-4 in total, picking up wins against the #3, #6 and #9-ranked teams in the country along the way.

Wichita State concludes the regular season with a record of 77-35 and will await their seeding at next week's Conference USA Tournament in Harahan, Louisiana.

Youngstown State claimed the team title, besting Jacksonville State in the final. Maryville and Vanderbilt checked in at third and fourth, respectively. Maryville's Elizabeth Teuber took home MVP, while Ashtyn Woods snagged a spot on the All-Tournament team.

The Shockers got off to a hot start on Friday, rolling to a 5-0 record on the strength of wins over Aurora, Newman, Illinois Wesleyan, #9 Stephen F. Austin and #13 Wisconsin-Whitewater. WSU put a 1,118 on the board against Newman, the second-highest score from any team through the first two days of competition.

On Saturday, the Shockers were matched up against four of the nation's top 10 teams. After dropping their first three traditional matches of the day against #4 Youngstown State, #2 Jacksonville State and #10 Maryville, Wichita State bounced back with a win over #3 Vanderbilt followed by a comfortable victory against Jackson State. The win against Vanderbilt was the Shockers fourth in a row over the Commodores dating back to the Flyer Classic at the beginning of February.

Wichita State crushed #13 Louisiana Tech in the final traditional match on Sunday morning, 1,031-824, to enter the bracket seeded 6th in total pinfall. The Shockers were swept 4-0 in the opening round of bracket play by #7 Sam Houston but bounced back to sweep #6 Arkansas State in the second round, securing seventh place.

The Shockers finished seventh or better in all 10 regular season tournaments during the 2024-25 season.
