Shockers Roll Past Abilene Christian

NORMAN, Okla. – Wichita State capped its Norman swing with a 10-3 win over the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Monday afternoon at Marita Hynes Field.

The Shockers finished 3-1 in Norman with the win, beating ACU twice as well as Bowling Green, and falling to No. 2/2 Oklahoma.

After a scoreless inning from starter Chloe Barber, Sami Hood drove in the game's first run in the bottom of the first with an RBI single that scored Lauren Lucas from second.

In the top of the second, the Wildcats tied the game up by scoring a run on an error.

Moving to the bottom of the third, the Shocker offense found life, smacking three balls over the fence to score four runs in the inning. Taylor Sedlacek scored first, hitting an opposite-field shot over the fence in right to break the 1-1 tie. Jodie Epperson followed up two batters later with another solo homer, this one to center to give WSU a 3-1 lead. Camryn Compton capped off the scoring in the inning with a two-run bomb off the batter's eye in center to give the Shockers a 5-1 lead through three frames.

ACU responded right back in the fourth, scoring two runs to cut the Shocker lead to 5-3.

In the bottom half, Epperson got a run back via a sacrifice fly, scoring Ellee Eck to make it 6-3.

After a quiet fifth, the Shockers broke through in the sixth, capitalizing on three Wildcat errors in the inning to score four runs and take a 10-3 lead.

Freshman Ryley Nihart finished out the game, allowing no hits in the seventh inning to close out a 10-3 win for WSU.

Aguilar (6-1) earned the win in relief in her third appearance out of the bullpen this season.

Compton's 3-for-4 day led the Shockers in the hit department. Hood and Epperson weren't far behind with two hits each.
