Box Score MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Wichita State women's tennis team snapped a three-match long losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a resounding 6-1 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats at Body First Tennis Center.

Wichita State snapped their three-match losing streak and are now 2-4 on the year. Kansas State suffered their first loss of the season and is now 2-1. The win is the Shockers first over a Power Four opponent since March 10, 2023, when the Shockers downed then No. 49 Nebraska, 4-3 on the road.

The match began with three thrilling matches in doubles. At court three, K-State gained the edge with a narrow 6-4 win over Anne Knuettel and Sati Aubakirova, but Theodora Chantava and Kristina Kudryavtseva came from behind to win 7-5 at court two, sending doubles to be decided by Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli at court one.

At court one, the Shockers trailed 5-6 but battled back to force a tiebreak. In the breaker, the Shockers took an early 4-2 lead that they were able to turn into 7-5 tiebreak victory, clinching the doubles point for WSU.

"The doubles point was huge today," Head Coach Colin Foster said. "We rode the momentum from securing the point into singles play, but knew it wasn't going to be easy."
'
In singles, Wang struck again with a huge 6-4, 6-3 win at court one to make it 2-0 Shockers.

Chantava stole momentum in her match with a tiebreak win in her first set, going on to win her match 7-6 (4), 6-3 at court three to put the Shockers on the brink of victory.

Playing at court five for the first time as a Shocker, Tatyana Nikolenko gritted out a tough 7-6 (4), 6-4 win, to clinch the match for the Shockers.

"Playing on only three courts provides a different dynamic," Foster said. "Xin Tong, Theodora, and Tatyana all did well to play focused tennis from start to finish.".

Playing the match out in pro sets, Roselli put together an 8-6 victory to make it 5-0 Wichita State.

Soon after, Kudryavtseva joined the victory party with an 8-5 win at court four, giving the Shockers a 6-0 lead.

In her first match of the season, senior Clara Whitaker fell in a pro set, 8-4, to conclude the match.

"We're playing a tough schedule intended to challenge us and make us stronger," Foster said. "With our level of opponents this weekend, we definitely got stronger as a team."

The Shockers return home to play their home opener on February 5 against Oral Roberts at 1:00 PM at Wichita Country Club.
