HARAHAN, La. -- Wichita State picked up wins over the #2, #4, #7, #8, #9, and #12 ranked teams in the country on their way to a fifth-place finish at the Colonial Lanes Classic to wrap up the fall portion of the schedule.
Arkansas State claimed the team title, defeating Wichita State, 4-2, in the first round of bracket play before knocking off Nebraska and Vanderbilt to claim the top spot. Louisiana Tech snagged third place, with Nebraska in fourth.
The Shockers (39-13) posted a 9-1 record through Friday and Saturday's matches, tied with Arkansas State for the best mark in the field. In Friday's Baker matches, Wichita State went 5-0, kicking things off with a win over #2 Nebraska and #12 Duquesne before comfortable wins over Prairie View, Jackson State and Southern. On Saturday, WSU suffered their lone defeat at the hands of Arkansas State, but sandwiched it around three top-10 victories over #4 Youngstown State, #8 Sam Houston and #9 Louisiana Tech, with a victory over Florida A&M to close out the day.
Wichita State suffered a 4-2 defeat to Arkansas State in the bracket play opener, then fell in four to Louisiana Tech to drop into the 5-6 match, where they swept #7 North Carolina A&T to earn a top-five finish.
Aleesha Oden capped her strong fall with a spot on the All-Tournament team, placing fourth with a 222.4 average to pace the Shockers. Freshman
Kendall Bollea checked in at 17th individually, averaging 206.6 and posting a 255 in the Shockers win over Louisiana Tech.
Ashtyn Woods logged Wichita State's top individual score of the tournament, firing 279 in the same Louisiana Tech match. Tulane's Mia Stolakis took home tournament MVP honors, averaging 236.4.
The Shockers are off until the calendar flips to 2026, when they will kick off the spring schedule with a trip to the Northeast Classic in New Castle, Delaware, hosted by Sacred Heart January 16-18.
