11/2/2025 3:38:00 PM

HOUSTON -- Wichita State ended 13 qualifying matches at the top of the leaderboard in total pinfall and capped it off with a dominant 4-0 sweep in the title match as they claimed the Track Kat Klash championship at Emerald Bowl in Houston.

The Shockers (21-5) led nearly wire-to-wire in terms of total pins, posting four matches over 1,000 to put themselves in position to compete for the title, which was the only round of bracket play after eight Baker matches and five traditional matches. Wichita State went 3-1 plus a bye in Friday's Baker matches, 4-1 in Saturday's traditional contests, and 2-1 on Sunday in Baker play, earning the top seed and a showdown with #9 Louisiana Tech. WSU put the Lady Techsters away in four games, 189-152, 225-222, 222-131, 201-170, earning the program's 251st tournament win all time and first of the 2025-26 season.

Morgan Kline earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, placing third individually with a 208.0 average. Paige Wagner narrowly missed a spot in the top five, placing sixth with a 205.6 average. Ashtyn Woods rounded out the top 10 at 200.4, with Aleesha Oden 12th (198.8) and Sara Duque Jiménez 16th (188.8). Maryland Eastern Shore's Mariana Santos Rivero claimed MVP honors, posting a 217.0 mark. Kline's 256 in the fourth traditional game was the top individual game in the tournament and featured eight consecutive strikes to open the game.

Wichita State suffered three total losses in the tournament, none by more than 15 total pins. Along the way, the Shockers snagged five ranked wins: #8 Sam Houston, #9 Louisiana Tech, #16 Maryland Eastern Shore, #19 Tulane and #24 Oklahoma Christian. WSU logged a pair of 1,077 matches, the second and third-most pins recorded by any team in the tournament.

North Carolina A&T defeated host Sam Houston in the third-place match and Newman took down Oklahoma Christian to earn a place in the top five.

The Shockers head right back to the Lone Star State this week, taking part in the Bulldog Classic in Fort Worth November 7-9.
