Wichita State hosts Memphis on Fri., Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. and UAB on Sun., Oct. 12 at 12 p.m. Both matches are inside Charles Koch Arena.

SCENE SETTERS    
•Wichita State is coming off of an 0-2 weekend after falling twice to Tulsa over the weekend.
•WSU leads the series with Memphis 13-4.
•WSU leads the series with UAB 4-0.
•The Shockers finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with an 8-4 record. 
•WSU had 2,681 fans in attendance at the Kansas match on Sept. 16. It was the largest home attendance since 2023.
•The Shockers tied a program record by allowing just four points in the first set against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 11.
•The Shockers are coming off an 18-14 season in 2024 that culminated in a dominant run to the American Conference Tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. 
•The Shockers appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time overall and the first since 2017.
•The Shockers were picked third in the American Conference preseason poll. Rice was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite, garnering nine first place votes to South Florida's four. Brooklyn Leggett was named preseason all-conference.
•Wichita State returns three starters and the libero from the 2024 team including senior outside hitters Brooklyn Leggett and Emerson Wilford, junior middle blocker Maddie Wilson and senior libero Katie Galligan. 
•Head coach Chris Lamb is in his 26th season at the helm of the Shockers. Known affectionately as "Lambo," the veteran head coach owns a career record of 536-256, good for a .677 winning percentage and the most wins in the American Conference.

PROMOTIONS    
•The Oct. 10 match vs. Memphis is the annual Dig Pink match. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness. The first 500 fans receive pink sunglasses.
•The Oct. 12 match is the annual Powerful Minds match. The afternoon is dedicated to breaking the stigma around mental health. There are also post match serves.

WEEKEND RECAP  
•The Shockers dropped a four-set match to Tulsa on Friday and then a three-set match at Tulsa on Sunday.
•In Wichita, the Golden Hurricane won by scores of 16-25, 25-19, 32-30 and 25-14. Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with 14 kills, while Jordan Heatherly had 28 assists and Gabi Maas had 14 digs.
•In Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane won by scores of 28-26, 25-18 and 25-20. Brooklyn Leggett led the Shockers with 13 kills, while Jordan Heatherly had 25 assists and Gabi Maas had 12 digs.

SHOCKS IN THE NCAA STATS    
•In the October 6 NCAA stat report, the Shockers are ranked 71st in assists per set, 78th in digs per set, 99th in hitting percentage, 54th in kills per set, 99th in match win-loss percentage, 59th in team assists, 62nd in team attacks per set, 79th in team digs, 44th in team kills and 84th in team total attacks.
•Individually, Jordan Heatherly is 99th in assists per set and 56th in total assists, Sydney Dunning is 90th in points, 77th in total attacks and 74th in total kills, Maddie Wilson is 20th in blocks per set and 14th in total blocks and Gabi Maas is 81st in digs per set.

FIRST RPI OUT    
•The first RPI report of the season was released on October 6. The Shockers are 94th, while Memphis is 236 and UAB 178. 
•South Florida is the top American team at 36, while the American has six teams in the top-100.
•WSU is 0-4 against the top-50.

JENNA'S BIG WEEKEND 
•Freshman outside hitter Jenna Cubbage had a breakout weekend in the two matches against Tulsa.
•In the four-set match in Wichita, she finished with a career-best seven kills on 19 swings and hit .316. She also added three digs.
•In the three-set match at Tulsa, she set her career-high again with 12 kills on 26 swings. 
•On the weekend, she averaged 3.80 kills per set and hit .289.

FORMER TIGER    
•Wichita State junior setter Jordan Heatherly played for Memphis in 2023 and 2024.
•Appeared in 197 sets over 56 matches and averaged 7.20 assists per set, 2.28 digs per set and 1.32 kills per set, while racking up 61 service aces. 

WSU-MEMPHIS SERIES    
•Wichita State leads the overall series with Memphis, 13-4. The Shockers lead the series in Wichita, 5-3. Head Coach Chris Lamb is 12-3 against the Tigers.
•The last meeting between the two teams was Sept. 28, 2025, in Memphis. WSU won 3-0.
•In that meeting, the Shockers won by scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-22.
•Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with 13 kills, while Jordan Heatherly had 26 assists and Gabi Maas had nine digs.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS    
•Memphis is 9-9 this season and 1-3 in the American with wins over USC Upstate, Northwestern State, Tennessee State, Texas Southern, Chattanooga, Lamar, UT Martin, Mississippi Valley State and Tulane and losses to Denver, Idaho State, Ole Miss, Alabama, UCF, Wichita State, Southern Illinois, UTSA and Rice.
•Zaniah Hoskins leads the Tigers with 2.66 kills per set, while Madelyn Bach averages 7.72 assists per set and Abigail Schlueter averages 3.31 digs per set.
•Memphis finished 12-16 in 2024 and 6-10 in the American.
•Head coach Cheri Lindsay is in her first season with Memphis.

WSU-UAB SERIES    
•Wichita State leads the overall series with UAB, 4-0. Head Coach Chris Lamb is 4-0 against the Blazers.  
•The last meeting between the two teams was Sept. 26, 2025 in Birmingham, Ala., with the Shockers winning 3-1.
•In that meeting, the Shockers won by scores of 26-24, 23-25, 25-16 and 25-15.
•Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with 14 kills, while Jordan Heatherly had 29 assists and Gabi Maas had 15 digs.

SCOUTING THE BLAZERS    
•UAB is 7-9 this season and 0-4 in the American with wins over UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Tennessee Tech, UNA, Evansville, Western Illinois, and South Alabama and losses to Jacksonville, Alabama, Morehead State, Auburn, Samford, Wichita State, North Texas, Rice and UTSA.
•Jorda Crook leads the Blazers with 3.78 kills per set, while Annastiina Tarkkanen averages 5.14 assists per set and Meg Jarrett averages 2.86 digs per set.
•UAB finished 11-17 in 2024 and 6-10 in the American.
•Head coach Betsy Freeburg is in her sixth season with UAB.

CAREER-HIGHS 
•The Shockers had four players with career-highs over the weekend.
•Jenna Cubbage had a career-high 12 kills and 26 attack attempts on Oct. 5 at Tulsa and a career-high three digs and .316 hitting percentage against Tulsa on Oct. 3.
•McKenzie Jones had a career-high three digs and a hit a career-best .385 against Tulsa on Oct. 3.
•Sarah Musial had a career-high 14 assists, one service ace and four digs against Tulsa on Oct. 3
•Janaya Weitkemper had a career-high four kills, 14 attack attempts, and one dig at Tulsa on Oct. 5.

UP NEXT    
•The Shockers travel to UTSA on Oct. 17 and then to Rice on Oct. 19.
