WTEN Preview: ITA Central Region Championships (Oct. 16-20)

10/14/2025 1:50:00 PM

NORMAN, Okla. – Wichita State women's tennis opens play in the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships on Thursday at Oklahoma's Headington Family Tennis Center.

The tournament will be the first event of the year where the entire team will be competing in the same location.

The Shockers' last saw action at the Husker Invitational back in September, where six Shockers combined for a total of 14 wins in the weekend of competition against five Power Four teams.

In singles, four Shockers – Xin Tong Wang, Giorgia Roselli, Theodora Chantava, and Anne Knuettel – have all earned automatic bids into the main draw. Wang, who is currently ranked No. 73 in singles by the ITA, enters as the fifth-highest-ranked player in the Central Region and is one of 10 ranked players in the region.

Four more Shockers – Vichitraporn Vimuktananda, Kristina Kudryavtseva, Tatyana Nikolenko, and Sati Aubakirova – are set to begin play in singles qualifying on Thursday. 16 spots in the main draw are up for grabs in qualifying.

In doubles, all eight Shockers are set to compete. WSU's No. 31-ranked pair of Wang and Roselli is the second-highest-ranked duo in the region, behind only Kansas' Heike Janse van Vuuren and Kyoka Kubo, who are No. 20. The other Shocker pairings in regionals are Kudryavtseva and Chantava, Knuettel and Vimuktananda, and Nikolenko and Aubakirova.

The two singles finalists from each regional automatically qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship, while the doubles champion advances to the NCAA Doubles Championship. Spots in ITA sectionals are also available to those who fall short of NCAA bids.

Draws with days and times will be finalized soon and can be found linked here.
