5/14/2024 1:03:00 PM

GREENWOOD, Ind. – After an excellent season on the court and in the classroom, Wichita State's Jessica Anzo, Theodora Chantava, Kristina Kudryavtseva, and Natsumi Kurahashi have been named to the second ever College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Women's Tennis Team.

CSC, formerly called CoSIDA, has sponsored Academic All-America teams since 1952, but this is only the second year that the organization has announced a tennis team list. To earn the honor of Academic All-District, student-athletes must possess and maintain a 3.50+ cumulative GPA and have to be at their current school for a full calendar year. Graduate students must have also maintained at least a 3.50 as an undergrad.

Anzo, a second-year graduate student from Temecula, California, carries a spotless 4.0 GPA, and recently completed her master's degree in sport management. She played at No. 1 doubles for a majority of the 2024 season and earned victory in seven of her final ten doubles decisions. She was also a big part of the Shockers first round win in AAC Tournament over Tulsa, recording both a win at No. 1 doubles and a straight set win at No. 6 singles in the Shockers 4-0 victory over the Golden Hurricane on April 18.

Chantava, a sophomore from Grevena, Greece, holds a perfect 4.0 GPA and is working towards a bachelor's in sport management. She played at No. 3 doubles in every match this season and ended the season playing regularly at No. 3 singles. Her 12-3 singles record was the best of any Shocker by win percentage at 0.800 and she went 9-0 in singles matches between February 11 and April 12.

Kudryavtseva, a sophomore from Moscow, Russia, holds a strong GPA of 3.86 and is working towards her degree in international business. Kudryavtseva was a regular at No. 1 doubles with partner, Anzo, and went 11-8 in doubles dual matches this season. In singles, she played largely between courts three, four, and five, but played as high as No. 2 early in the season.

Kurahashi, a redshirt senior from Toyota, Japan, possesses a GPA of 3.71 and recently completed her bachelor's degree in exercise science. She played in all 23 matches this season and played every match at the No. 1 or No. 2 position in both singles and doubles. Kurahashi went 15-5 in doubles this season, tying for the team lead with partner, Xin Tong Wang, and the duo went 11-3 in their final 15 doubles matches of the season.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 4.
