WACO, Texas – Wichita State track and field wrapped up its weekend at the Michael Johnson Invitational with 10 top-10 finishes before weather conditions cut the meet short Friday and Saturday at Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium.
Brady Palen's second-place performance in the high jump highlighted the meet for the Shockers. The senior from Beloit, Kan. cleared 2.11m/6'11" just before the lightning canceled the remainder of the meet.
Marissa Jensen placed fourth in the women's competition with a clearance of 1.63m/.25".
Five Shockers made field event finals, starting with
Adria Navajon in the long jump on Friday. The junior from Barcelona, Spain jumped 7.30m/23'11.5" to place sixth.
On Saturday three Shockers made the javelin finals with
Tess Roman throwing a personal-best 43.26m/141'11" to take seventh in the women's competition and
Jordan Rider and
Blake McCormick placing seventh (56.73m/186'1") and eighth (56.71m/186'0"), respectively.
Harry Barthelemy took eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.66m/48'1.25", which he jumped on his second attempt.
On the track,
Lea Jerkovic ran 4:37.98 to finish eighth in the 1500 meters, and
Audrey Parson finished 10
th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.90.
Josh Parrish finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with
Joseph Holthusen right behind him, the pair running 14.30 and 14.33 respectively.
Kate Campos ran 14.03 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish ninth.
The Shockers return to the track with the distance group running at the Drake Relays on Thursday, April 25 before the team heads to Kansas State for the Ward Haylett Invitational on April 26 and 27.
