Shockers Wrap Up KT Woodman Weekend

WICHITA – Cessna Stadium saw around 2,500 athletes over the course of three days as Wichita State track and field hosted the 76th annual KT Woodman Classic and Shocker Pre-State Challenge.
 
The Shockers racked up eight event wins and two event sweeps over the course of the two-day collegiate meet.
 
Kate Campos and Joseph Holthusen swept the high hurdles for the Shockers with Campos running a personal-best time of 13.86 to win the 100-meter hurdles and Holthusen running an all-conditions personal best of 13.84 (+4.9w) to win the 110-meter hurdles. Josh Parrish also ran sub-14 (+4.9w) to place third in 13.94.
 
Wichita State also swept the high jump competitions with Brady Palen clearing 2.16m/7'1", his 20th time over seven feet in his career, to win the men's competition and Destiny Masters clearing 1.77m/5'9.75" to win the women's competition. Marissa Jensen placed second with a clearance of 1.67m/5'5.75", and Mattelyn Swartz took third with a jump of 1.62m/5'3.75".
 
Masters also claimed victory in the javelin with an almost six-meter improvement on her previous personal best, throwing 47.46m/155'8". Samantha Marx placed third with a throw of 42.91m/140'9", and Wichita State signee, Jenna Kuepker, threw 47.02m/154'3" for Hutchinson CC to place second.
 
Jenna Muma and Chidera Okoro also claimed event titles with Muma winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase on night one with a time of 11:02.93, the No. 2 time in the American Athletic Conference, and Okoro winning the long jump with an outdoor personal-best of 5.94m/19'6".
 
In the pole vault, Arantxa Cortez picked up her second-straight top-two finish and top collegiate finish, clearing 3.62m/11'10.5" to place second behind Wichita State pole vault coach Aliyah Welter, who jumped a personal-best 4.37m/14'4" to win the event.
 
Creighton Camp placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 53.59m/175'10".
 
The Shocker quartet of Sadie Millard, Elontae Hackney-Cooper, Hannah Glennen and Ma'Liyah Anderson concluded the meet with a 4x400-meter relay win, running 3:55.55.
 
Wichita State heads to Waco, Texas for the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor April 19-20.
