Shockers to Compete at Ichabod Invitational

TOPEKA, Kan. – Wichita State track and field is set to compete at the Ichabod Invitational, a two-day meet, starting Friday afternoon in the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
 
The meet hosts athletes from 51 schools and is the Shockers' second-to-last competition before the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24.
 
Events will be streamed online through the MIAA Network with live results available through Black Squirrel Timing.
 
TOP TIME IN TOPEKA
Farrah Miller set the Ichabod Invitational 800 meters record a year ago, running 2:11.72 to win the event. Miller is set to compete in the distance medley relay, 400 meters and 4x400-meter relay.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Brock Merz broke the Wichita State 600-meter school record, winning his section and placing fourth overall with a time of 1:20.74.
 
In her second 800-meter race of the season, Farrah Miller clocked the second-fastest time in school history with a personal best of 2:07.61 to place fourth and move up to No. 2 in the American Athletic Conference (AAC).
 
Brady Palen placed third in the high jump with a season-best jump of 2.17m/7'1.5", the second-highest jump in the AAC this year and the No. 22 mark in the nation.
 
After breaking her own school record in the pentathlon two days prior, Destiny Masters entered the Husker Invitational high jump competition and placed third with a clearance of 1.79m/5'10.5".
 
ROAD TO BOSTON
With the top-16 marks in each event qualifying to the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, Wichita State currently has one athlete within the qualifying range in two events.
 
Destiny Masters ranks No. 7 in the pentathlon and ties for No. 9 in the high jump.

SQUAD UP
The second USTFCCCA event squad rankings were released on Feb. 5 with Wichita State making top-25 appearances in seven events.
 
The pentathlon squad moved up one spot to No. 3 while the heptathlon squad came in at No. 4. The women's high jumpers are ranked ninth in the nation as a group and the hurdles remain at No. 14, while the men's triple jumpers came in at No. 10 and the hurdlers sit in 17th.
 
SHOCKERS IN THE AMERICAN
Wichita State hold the conference leads in two events with Masters leading the AAC in the high jump Montgomery holding the fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles.
 
Farrah Miller ranks second in the 800 meters, Brady Palen ranks second in the high jump, Adria Navajon and Hudson Bailey rank second and third in the heptathlon, and Josh Parrish ranks third in the hurdles.
