LINCOLN, Neb. – Brock Merz broke the Wichita State 600-meter school record as the Shockers picked up nine top-five finishes at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational Friday and Saturday in the Bob Devaney Sports Complex.

Merz won his section of the 600 meters, placing fourth overall with a school record-breaking time of 1:20.74.

In her second 800-meter race of the season,
Farrah Miller clocked the second-fastest time in school history with a personal best of 2:07.61 to place fourth and move up to No. 2 in the American Athletic Conference (AAC).

Wichita State hurdlers
Josh Parrish and
Jaleel Montgomery were the lone Shockers to make it out of the day one preliminaries, running 7.97 and 8.01, respectively, to qualify to Saturday's final. Parrish matched his prelim time in the final to place fifth and Montgomery ran 8.08 to place seventh. Parrish has now run sub-eight seconds in five races as a freshman. He also went on to place sixth in the long jump with a personal best of 7.15m/23'5.5" and ninth in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 14.09m/46'2.75".

After breaking her own school record in the pentathlon two days prior,
Destiny Masters entered the Husker Invitational high jump competition and placed third with a clearance of 1.79m/5'10.5".
Brady Palen also placed third in the high jump with a season-best jump of 2.17m/7'1.5", the second-highest jump in the AAC this year and the No. 20 mark in the nation.

Wichita State picked up a pair of top-five finishes in the men's and women's 3,000 meters with
Zander Cobb finishing fifth with a personal-best time of 8:19.93 and
Lucy Ndungu running a personal-best 9:46.05 to place fourth.
Miranda Dick and
Sarah Bertry also ran sub-10 minutes for the first time, finishing seventh (9:54.80) and ninth (9:57.67), respectively.

Adam Rzentkowski ran a personal best in the mile, finishing fifth in 4:07.48, while assistant coach and Shocker alumnus
Adam Moore took the win in 4:01.72.

In their collegiate 5,000-meter debuts,
Aidan Reyna finished sixth in 14:54.42, and
Landen O'Neill finished eighth in 15:08.82.

Chidera Okoro made the triple jump final and placed seventh with a mark of 11.99m/39'4".

Freshman
Miya Evans was Wichita State's top finisher in the 60 meters with a personal best of 7.77, and Montgomery just missed the men's final, finishing ninth in 6.88.

Kenisa Meyer also just missed a final, running 8.76 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims to finish ninth.

Wichita State returns to action Friday Feb. 9 for the two-day Ichabod Invitational in Topeka, Kan.
