Shockers Split Day 2 at Razorback Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Wichita State defeated UT Arlington, 6-1, in the first game of the day Saturday, before falling to No. 15/14 Arkansas in 5 innings, 15-4.

Wichita State (6-3) is now 2-3 against ranked teams this season with the loss to Arkansas snapping a four-game win streak.

Game 1 | UTA 1, Wichita State 6

Four Shockers recorded multi-hit games, including CC Wong and Addison Barnard. The top two hitters in the lineup both had a double, home run and two RBI. Sami Hood went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Mila Seaton registered her first game with multiple hits, going 2-for-2 with her first career RBI.

Sydney Zenon and Taylor Sedlacek each had a triple to their names.

Alison Cooper improved to 2-1 in the circle behind 6.0 strong innings. She allowed just one run on seven hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Chloe Barber tossed the final inning, striking out a pair.

A shaky top of the first gave UTA an early 1-0 lead. Luckily it didn't last long thanks to Barnard's fourth home run of the season. Her solo shot in the home half tied the game at 1-1.

Wichita State then grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second after a Zenon triple and Seaton sac fly.

The Shockers would a single run in the third and fifth innings on a Wong home run and Hood RBI double.

In the sixth, Wichita State tacked on two more for good measure behind Wong's RBI double and Barnard's sac fly.

Game 2 | Wichita State 4, #15 Arkansas 15

CC Wong provided nearly all the offense for the Shockers, going 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI.

Alex Aguilar was saddled with the loss. She allowed five runs on three hits and a walk. Lauren Howell was only able to record one out before allowing four runs on three hits and a walk. Alison Cooper recorded the final two outs, but not before the Razorbacks touched her up for six runs, two unearned, on four hits and a walk.

After two scoreless innings, Wong finally opened the scoring behind her fourth home run of the season. Arkansas would answer with a two-out, two-run shot in the home half of the third to take a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Wong would come through once again. With the bases loaded and two outs, the lefty laced a two-run single through the right side to put the Shockers back in front, 3-2.

The bottom of the fourth was an inning to forget for the Shockers. Arkansas blew it wide open behind a 13-run, nine-hit frame.
