Shockers Tie for 13th at Diamante

10/22/2024 4:58:00 PM

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – Junior Kate Tilma climbed almost 30 spots on the final day of play to boost the Shockers to a 13th place finish at the Diamante Intercollegiate at Diamante Country Club.

The Shockers tied for 13th with Bradley and Texas A&M – Commerce with a team score of 893, 29 strokes over-par, and with round scores of 302, 295, and 296.

Florida Gulf Coast edged out Boston College by three strokes to win the tournament title. Similarly, FGCU's Lousiane Gauthier beat out Boston College's Cynthia Zhang by two strokes to win the individual crown.

The Shockers struggled to put strong scores together on a single day. Each day, the Shockers had one player finish even par for the round or better, but no other Shocker in a round could join the even or under par trend. Brooklyn Benn was best on day one, firing an even par 72 round, Mackenzie Wilson shot a season best 69 on day two, and Kate Tilma put up a 70 round on the final day to give herself a finish in the top 25.

In terms of course stats, the Shockers put up the seventh most birdies of the field with 47, but were also seventh in total bogeys with 60, and had the second most double and triple bogeys of the field at 17, only beaten by Stephen F. Austin with 19.

Par fours at Diamante proved to be the Shockers undoing as they were 40 strokes over par on par four holes, fourth worst among teams in the 18-team field.
