McKinney Reaches Milestone in Run-Rule Win over FDU

SAN DIEGO – Wichita State slugged three home runs, including a multi-home run game from
Lauren Mills to finish the Torero Classic with a 12-0 win over FDU in five innings Sunday afternoon.
Wichita State (8-3) finished the weekend with three straight run-rule victories and will now prepare for a big weekend in Denton, Texas, at the North Texas Invitational. They will face a ranked North Texas team twice.
Sydney McKinney recorded her 300th career hit on Sunday, becoming the first Shocker to accomplish the feat in school history. She finished the day 3-for-3, upping her season totals to 27-for-35 after 11 games. She multiple hits in six of the 11 games.
Mills finally broke out of a home run slump to start the season with two on the afternoon. She was 2-for-2 with two homers and five RBI. Her two round-trippers move her into a tie for seventh on the career charts with 34.
Addison Barnard was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
Camryn Compton had a pair of hits and
Taylor Sedlacek scored twice and homered.
Lauren Howell struck out a career-high tying seven in 4.0 innings of shutout ball in the circle to improve to 3-1 on the season. She allowed only two hits and one free pass.
Kenzie Schopfer threw the final inning of relief.
Three straight singles to open the game from McKinney, Barnard and
Lauren Lucas led to Mills unloading her first home run of the season into the trees for a grand slam. Two batters later, Sedlacek registered her first career home run with a solo shot to left-center. The Shockers led 5-0 after the top of the first.
Wichita State's lead ballooned to 9-0 in the second on an RBI single from Barnard, RBI groundout from Lucas, a Jones RBI double and Mills' second home run of the game.
With the bases loaded in the top of the third,
Bailey Urban came through with a pinch-hit two-run single. One more came in on a FDU fielding error to put the Shockers up 12-0.
