LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Wichita State women's tennis team has a full slate of action ahead of them this weekend, as they are set to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championships at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kansas from October 12-16.
 
The four-day event begins on Thursday at 9:00 AM central and will mark the start of the quest for the ITA Fall National Championships from November 2-5.
Head coach Colin Foster is looking forward to the competition this weekend.

"The Central Regionals are our biggest event of our fall schedule and it's going to bring us a lot of competition from the region," said Foster. "Our team hasn't gotten to compete much together all fall, so it will be good to finally play together at this event."

Six of the eight Shockers on the 2023-24 roster will be making the trip to Lawrence to compete in this event with five competing in singles and all six playing doubles matches.

"It'll be good to see the progress our girls have been making and a good opportunity to see what we've learned and what we still need to work on," said Foster. "Everyone needs more matches and reps and our girls have been so open to being coached and getting better."

Theodora Chantava, Natsumi Kurahashi, and Kristina Kudryavtseva have all claimed spots in the singles main draw, while Clara Whitaker and Giorgia Roselli will have to battle through two rounds of qualifying on Thursday to join the main draw.

The Shockers will also trot out doubles' pairings of Kurahashi/Jessica Anzo, Roselli/Kudryavtseva, and Whitaker/Chantava.

"We feel like we've gotten better all fall as a team and are looking forward to continuing to learn in Lawrence this week," said Foster.

Live streaming will be available for all games played at the Jayhawk Tennis Center, but some matches will be played offsite and won't have livestreaming available.
