WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State women's tennis head coach
Jacob Eddins released his squad's 2026 spring season schedule Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Eddins has set up a challenging slate in his first year as head coach, as 15 opponents spent time ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association top 75 at some point last season. Seven of those 15 teams ended the year ranked in the top 75.
Â
"I am extremely pleased with how this year's schedule has come together," Eddins said. "It's a demanding slate, but building a highly competitive schedule is essential for us to achieve our goals in the national rankings and position our program to contend for the American Conference championship."
Â
Including the first round of the American Conference Championship, a minimum of 24 matches are on deck for the Shockers in 2026. Ten matches are slated to be played in Wichita, seven are true road matches and the remaining seven are at neutral sites.
Â
Nine Shocker opponents are from Power Four conferences, including the team's season opener against the Oklahoma Sooners on Jan. 17 in Norman, Okla.
Â
"Facing strong opponents throughout the season will ensure we're fully prepared to play our best tennis when it matters most — in the postseason," Eddins said. "This group is ready to take the next step, and we're confident they have what it takes to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament in May."
Â
The home opener for the Shockers is Jan. 19 at Genesis Rock Road against the SMU Mustangs. The 10 slated home matches for the Shockers are their most in a single season since 2019, when they also played 10. Wichita State will welcome three Power Four opponents, along with SMU, to Wichita, including Kansas, which has not played the Shockers in Wichita since 2020, and Nebraska, which has not made the trip down from Lincoln since 2011.
Â
Tennis teams in the American Conference do not play a set dual-match schedule, but the Shockers are still set to face six of the possible 12 conference opponents — North Texas, Rice, South Florida, Tulsa, Tulane and UTSA — in the regular season.
Â
The Shockers finished last season with a record of 13-10, including 5-3 against teams in the American Conference, and ranked No. 60 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The team returns virtually all of its production from last season and adds an experienced transfer in
Vichitraporn Vimuktananda.
Â
"Our team's experience and depth will be a major strength for us this year," Eddins said. "We will have a full lineup of players who have competed at a high level and proven themselves in pressure moments. With that level of maturity and competitiveness, I'm confident we can match up well with anyone on our schedule."
