WICHITA – The distance runners and javelin throwers for the Wichita State track and field team competed under the lights on day one of the individual events portion of the KT Woodman Classic.

In the women's javelin competition
Samantha Marx (42.00m/137-9) and
Kourtni Hubert (40.72m/133-7) took fourth and fifth, respectively, throwing into a strong headwind. By the time the men threw, the wind had calmed, and
Davis Dubbert claimed the third spot with a season-best throw of 60.37m/198-1.

On the track, the Shockers raced in the distance carnival, starting at 6 p.m. and wrapping up just before midnight.
Riley Vandaveer (3:53.61) and
Bryce Merriman (3:54.04) battled for the top two spots in the 1500 meters with less than a second separating first from third.

Asher Moen placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, winning the first heat with a time of 9:38.03. In the 5,000 meters,
Abeba Sullivan finished second for the women with a time of 16:58.30, and
Clayton Duchatschek followed with a second-place finish of his own in a personal-best time of 14:22.21.
Lubna Aldulaimi (37:59.45; PR) and
Britte Magnuson (31:11.61) capped the night for the Shockers with top-10 finishes in the 10,000 meters.

Day two of the individual events begins Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cessna Stadium.
