Despite posting victories on two of the top three singles courts the Wichita State women's team lost 5-2 to visiting Houston on Friday afternoon at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.

The Cougars (12-8) claimed the doubles point and won three of the five singles matches. They picked up an additional point at No. 6 singles with WSU again unable to field a complete lineup due to injuries.

The Shockers (6-12) earned points at No. 1 singles, where
Natsumi Kurahashi won two tiebreakers in a 2-6, 7-6 (10-8), 1-0 (10-8) victory, and at No. 3 singles with
Jessie Zheng sweeping her opponent by a count of 6-2, 6-4.

WSU will play its home finale next Wednesday, Apr. 6 against Emporia State, beginning at 3 p.m. Afterwards, fans are invited to stick around for some post-match pizza (courtesy of the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation of Kansas), and kids of all ages and ability levels will have a chance to sharpen at free kids clinic with Shocker players and coaches.
