3/22/2022 1:43:00 PM

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Led by top-five performances from Dawson Lewis and Lucas Scheufler, the Wichita State men's golf team secured third place at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate for their best finish of the 2021-22 season.

Three of the five Shockers in the lineup either matched or bested their previous career-high finish.

Lewis and Scheufler ended in a tie for third at four-under, one stroke back of Valparaiso's Yianni Kostouros and individual champion Dustin Hasley of Oral Roberts. ORU ultimately won the team title, shooting 273-280 (-15) to pull away from Valparaiso at 278-282 (-8) and Wichita State at 276-287 (-5). No other team ended the invitational under par in the 16-team field.

Lewis (66-72—138, -4) finished the tournament with 10 birdies, best in the field, while Scheufler (65-73—138, -4) recorded nine, as well as Wichita State's only eagle on the 18th hole of the second round. Lewis and Scheufler also recorded the two best scores on Par 4s, averaging 3.84 strokes for the tournament, and both set new career bests in the first round. Lewis shot a 66, while Scheufler carded a 65, tied for the best individual round of the tournament.

Two other Shockers put together career-best outings, as Joe Bultman (71-73—144, +2) ended in a tie for 19th, matching his finish at the Herb Wimberly Invitational in October of 2019. Bultman shot 71 for the second straight tournament, one off his career best.

Freshman Michael Winslow (74-71—145, +3) fashioned the best performance of his young career, using seven birdies to finish in a tie for 27th. His second round 71 represents a new low-18 at the collegiate level.

Brock Polhill (80-71—151, +9) bounced back from a rough opening day with a strong second round, ending the round with just two bogies to vault 11 places on the individual leaderboard.

As a team, the Shockers finished the invitational with 36 birdies, tied with Oral Roberts for the most in the field. The Shockers also dominated par 4s, averaging 4.03 strokes and shooting +3 for the tournament to lead the field.

The Shockers will look to build off the third-place finish with a trip to the Redhawk Invitational in University Place, Washington on April 4-5.
