WICHITA, Kan. - The first weekly honor of the 2022 season belongs to sophomore
Addison Barnard who was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Barnard picked up where she left off after a record-breaking freshman campaign in the Black & Yellow. The Beatrice, Neb., native hit .500 in five games, going 8-for-16 with three home runs, seven RBI, nine stolen bases and 11 runs scored. Barnard had nine stolen bases her entire freshman season, but swiped nine over the opening weekend.Â
In the season opener vs. Dayton, Barnard was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and four runs. She then hit a three-run home run in the first game vs. Sam Houston. In the finale vs. Sam Houston, Barnard hit a solo home run, stole two more bases and scored a school-record five runs.Â
This is the second Player of the Week honor for Barnard.
Wichita State travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Razorback Invitational this weekend where they will place No. 8 Arkansas twice, No. 25 Illinois, Longwood and Western Illinois.
