Sprints Squad Succeeds at Ichabod Mid-Week Challenge

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Wichita State track and field team claimed six event titles Thursday at the Ichabod Mid-Week Challenge in Topeka.
 
Paula Garcia stole the show when she broke her own school record in the 200 meters with a time of 23.61 to win the event and set a new facility record. She first broke the record at the same facility in January.
 
In the 60-meter dash, Faith Turner moved up to tie for second on the WSU all-time list with a 7.44, winning the event. Turner also placed third in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 5.86m/19-2.75.
 
Destiny Masters also found success in two events, entering the top-10 lists in both the 60-meter hurdles with her winning time of 8.59 and the long jump with a new personal best 5.94m/19-6 to take second.
 
In the high jump, Brady Palen matched his career best, clearing 2.10m/6-10.75 to claim victory in the event for the third time this season.
 
Amanda Kakoulias added another event win for the Shockers with a season-best toss of 14.80m/48-6.75 in the shot put.
 
Back on the track, Trey Rios captured one final event title for Wichita State, entering the 3,000-meter top-10 list with a time of 8:20.58.
 
Six Shockers will race in the Ichabod Invitational Saturday in Topeka to wrap up the week.
