TOPEKA, Kan. – The Wichita State track and field teams will compete at the All-Kansas Invitational in Topeka, Kansas on Saturday.
Â
After placing third at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular last weekend, the Shockers look to build on some of their successful individual performances and improve throughout indoor season.
Â
"I am thinking very specifically about what happened in Lawrence, what adjustments we want to make and what strategies we want to establish with regard to going up to Washburn and competing at a nice facility," head coach
Steve Rainbolt said.
Â
This will be the first meet on a banked track for the Shockers this season, which will help prepare for racing at championship meets later in the year.
Â
"We want for the athletes to feel like every meet matters and every meet counts," Rainbolt said. "At the same time, this is all preparation for the championship season."
Â
The All-Kansas Invitational features a handful of schools from around the state, including Fort Hays State, Washburn and Friends.
Â
A few meets into the season, eight Wichita State athletes sit in the top 25 in the national rankings.
Destiny Masters' jump of 1.82m/5-11.5 in the high jump at the Shocker Multi currently puts her fifth in the nation, while
Michael Bryan's opening throw of 20.25m/66'5.25" at the Triangular in the weight throw has earned him the 25
th spot early in the season.
Â
On Saturday, field events begin at 11:30 a.m. and the gun will be up for the running events at 12:30 p.m.
