Young-Craddock to Open Tokyo Paralympics

8/30/2021 12:51:00 PM

Former Wichita State sprinter Deja Young-Craddock will make her Tokyo Paralympics debut for Team USA Monday night at 10 p.m.

Young-Craddock will be racing in round one of the T47 100-meter dash and is set to run in lane nine of the first of two heats. The top three in each heat and the next two fastest times will advance to the final, which will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 6 a.m.

She's set to run the prelim for the 200-meter dash on Friday, Sept. 3 just before 10 p.m. Qualifiers will race in the final Saturday, Sept. 4 just before 6 a.m.

In the 2016 Rio Paralympics, Young-Craddock won gold medals in both the T47 100- and 200-meter dashes while being coached by current Wichita State track and field coach John Wise.

In addition to her Paralympic medals, she also has a collection of seven Para World Championship medals, including five golds over five years of competition.

Young-Craddock was born with a brachial plexus injury that limits mobility in her right shoulder and affects her ability to sprint.

In 2015, Young-Craddock was a member of the Wichita State 4x100-meter relay team that placed 16th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, earning Second Team All-American honors as a freshman. Since graduating, she has been training in Chula Vista, Calif. and competing professionally.

Paralympic coverage airs on NBC, NBCSN and the Olympic Channel. Additional coverage can be found on the NBC Sports app.
